Sometimes you know immediately when something is right. That was definitely the case when Katie and Derek found the Indian Head Resort in Lincoln, NH. The couple was starting to search for a perfect location for their upcoming ceremony and wedding reception, and Katie recalls, “Indian Head was the first venue that we visited and we instantly fell in love with the area and amazing scenery there. Also, every person we talked to was so accommodating. We decided it was the place!”
With a guest list of 100 people, the couple wanted a spot that had atmosphere but could comfortably handle the many aspects of their big day.

In order to seek out wedding professionals, Katie says she “visited a lot of bridal shows while I was engaged. That is how I found Simple Bouquets, Main Event (DJs), and Jacques Pastry. We found Rick Bouthiette Photography after doing research.”
The couple say it is difficult to pinpoint one particular part of their wedding day as the most special because it was all so “beautiful and perfect!”
Katie adds, “We decided to do a first look, which is when the groom and the bride see each other before the ceremony. I would say this was my absolute favorite part of the day. It was a very special moment shared by just my husband and myself. This was a moment we would have missed talking about in the future had we not done the first look.”

The flowers were a big part of the wedding day and Robin at Simple Bouquets (www.simplebouquets.com) handled the colors and design with skill. Simple Bouquets provided all bouquets, boutonnieres, flower girl petals (carnation) and corsages for family and groomsmen. Katie chose to spend more money on the bouquets and she opted for DIY centerpieces using candles.
Simple Bouquets also provided a large carnation petal count for the aisles. These were done with Floragene purple petals. Since Katie is not a big fan of roses and lavender roses do not come in a deep dark purple, the carnation petals were a perfect choice.
Robin explains how she worked with Katie to choose the wedding flowers, “She was very invested in the color palette. She wanted deep purple Dutch flowers, bluish lavenders with a hint of green. She loved Picasso calla lilies (the white ones with purple centers). Her bouquet style was a round, European hand-tied bouquet. Katie’s wedding style was romantic and classic style versus a rustic style.”

Robin outlines how she accomplished the floral design for the wedding, “Although Katie loved a romantic style, and she was not fond of roses, which presented a tiny bit of a challenge! But we always find a way to present the bride with exactly the look and style she wants using the flowers she loves. We have a great consultation process that helps us get to really know our brides to understand their vision and budget and from there we can present our best recommendation for the bouquet styles.
“We began with Dutch purple hydrangea as a base for Katie’s bouquet, and we added small baby green hydrangea to round it out. Then we added the focal flowers which were lavender scabiosa, purple phlox, lavender cremon, fragrant white freesia and her beloved Picasso calla lilies.
“Since Katie had a lot of attendants, we eliminated the calla lilies and Dutch purple hydrangea but chose large green hydrangea as a base and added lavender and purple and white flowers including Florigene purple carnations (which Katie loved), freesia and phlox. Nevevertheless, we still added the lavender cremons to tie it all together. This accomplished two things: Saving money on the bouquets and making the attendants’ bouquets more of a contrast against their lavender and purple dresses by using more green.”
